Costs
The cost for music lessons depend on the payment plan chosen and/or the program that you are enrolled in. Below is is the cost for each payment plan:
Trial Lesson
If you are wondering what lessons are like and would like to trial it and be sure you want to take lessons? You can take one lesson at a discounted rate of $12 per 1/2 half hour lesson.
Monthly payment plan
The cost for music lessons for those wishing to make payment on a monthly basis is $18 per half hour lesson. Therefore the cost for each lesson month is either $72 or $90 depending on a 4 lesson month or 5 lesson month respectively.
Postdated or credit card payment plan
The cost for music lessons for those wishing to make payment with postdated cheques and credit card payment plan on a monthly basis is $17 per half hour lesson. Therefore the cost for each lesson month is either $68 or $85 depending on a 4 lesson month or 5 lesson month respectively.
Programs
PRIVATE INSTRUMENT LESSONS
All instrument lessons are on a private lessons. You get the the full instructor dedication for the duration of your lesson time. Depending on the instrument, you can choose to persue the Royal Conservatory of Music curriculm (piano & guitar) or choose the Suzuki Method (violin). All lessons will have music theory encorporated in the music lessons. Students are expected to purchase any required books as such by their instructors. All books can be ordered through Dorian School of Music at a discounted rate.
THE SINGING PIANIST
All great musicians have the ability to sing and play an instrument. In this program students will spend 1 hour per week with an instructor to learn the techniques to be a successful vocalist and to learn how to play the piano. To demonstrate the success of this course students are expected to either perform at a concert put off by Dorian or record their work in a recording studio. Call for more details.
THE SINGING BASSIST
All great musicians have the ability to sing and play an instrument. In this program students will spend 1 hour per week with an instructor to learn the techniques to be a successful vocalist and to learn how to play the bass guitar. JAZZ UP THAT EAR: Ear Training Course
All great musicians have the ability to recognize pitch in music which help them learn songs "by ear". This course aims to develop each beginner or experienced musician to developing "relative pitch". The course is taught by Kevin Cooke who developed this proven method to train the ear to recognized relative pitch. This course is made up of three part series taking each student through the methods of pitch recognition from the root note all the way through to the octave. Call for more details and cost.
Music Theory
All great musicians have a deep understand of music theory. At Dorian there are music theory programs aimed at the beginner and all the way through to the advanced musician with topics of harmony and composition. Call for more details and cost. This course is taught by Robert Hetherington (ARCT) and Kevin Cooke.
Rock Band In the Studio
This program involves putting together a rock band of student musicians who plays bass guitar, rhythm guitar (acoustic or electric), keyboards and lead guitar. The objective of this program is to learn the process of song writing, song analysis, music theory, rehearsing and finally laying down the tracks. That is, go in the studio to record those songs and produce a music CD!
Songwriting and Recording
This program involves individual students who don't have a band but wish to learn about the process of writing songs and recording them for CD production.
Course outline: Students will work with a music instructor who will teach the following topics:
- Music Theory (Key signatures, chord progressions, tempo, rhythm)
- Song Writiting (Song analysis, melody, lyrics, rhythm, Song title)
- Rehearsing with other musicians
- The Art of Recording in the studio (basic equipment setup, guitar tones, effects in recording, mixing, mastering)
- Recording process of the songs written during the course
- CD jewel jacket design (optional)
Music Theory: 20% of class time is dedicated for music theory lessons
Song Writing: 40 % of the time is dedicated to the writing songs
Rehearsal time: 30 % of class time is dedicated to praticing and preparation for recording.
Recording in the studio: 10% of class time is dedicated to recording of songs.
Note: the final finished CD may take up to 2 weeks to complete as mixing and mastering of the CD is required by the audio engineer.
What will you get from this course: Students will learn the basic mechanisms of song writing to help bring out their creativity in song writing. Each student will have record a minimal of two songs (one original and one cover song depending on ability). The student will take home a professional recording of their work on CD.
Audio Recording and Engineering
The art of recording and engineering audio can be a challenging and rewarding field of work. Did you ever want to learn the techniques of audio recording? At Dorian we have courses that is geared towards the beginner all the way through to the advanced audio engineer.
